FKS Korean Kickboxing

Freestyle Kickboxing Scotland (FKS) is a modern martial art that combines the power and speed of boxing with the dynamic kicking techniques of Taekwon- do. It is a great martial art for improving fitness quickly and in a fun way.

Kickboxing is a generic term for a sport martial art that started in America during the 1970’s by martial arts practitioners who wanted to develop their martial arts training into a full contact sport. Kickboxing was developed from a mixture of traditional martial arts and western boxing, making a powerful and physical system.

The FKS syllabus follows a Semi contact style which is great for fitness but has the objective of scoring more points than the opponent by punching and kicking to the body and head in a controlled manner. We are proud to be associated with the WMO (World Martial Arts Organisation) and WUMA (World United Martial Arts) both are leaders within the martial art and kickboxing circuit.

AM I FIT ENOUGH TO START?

All students begin with exercises at a level to suit them. Due to the sheer level of calories burned you will soon notice a dramatic improvement in your health and wellbeing. Please remember, your teacher was also once a beginner!

IS IT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?

Kickboxing is ideal for children, starting them at a young age (6 years old and up) and it will teach them respect, control and confidence. It also gives them a good basis of regular exercise, something that will hopefully be carried through their adult life.

IS KICKBOXING SUITABLE FOR WOMEN?

Yes. In today’s society it is increasingly important for women to know how to defend themselves, and our techniques lend themselves well to day-to-day situations.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

Most of students train for 2 hours a week minimum.  We offer a 1 hour Kickboxing class that will develope your fitness, basics and team work. Our 2nd 1 hour class is FREE and is all sparring and core training!  The frequency of your training is up to you. If you can only train once a week that is fine.

WILL I BE GRADED?

Yes. Your progress through our belt system, will again depend on your frequency of training but, as a rule of thumb, a minimum of 4-5 years is required to reach black belt.

WILL I BE FORCED TO FIGHT?

Competing is Optional!   Should you wish to solely learn the syllabus, self defence and weapons then that is completely up to you, however, students wishing to compete at National or Internatioanl level will be helped to reach their full potential and hopefully join our elite group of National, International and World group.

Parents If you think that martial arts classes are just for kids, think again. Although your kids might get a kick out of their martial arts class, there are plenty of classes at KMAA academy that offer options for parents to join in as well. Taking a parent-child, or family, martial arts class with your kid has a bevy of benefits that can help you to bond with your child and better understand what he is learning.

As a parent If you don’t have time to hit the gym or don’t want to pay the extra money to hire a babysitter just so you can get a quick workout in, joining a martial arts class with your child. This is a creative solution to finding time to exercise. The physical benefits of martial arts include increased strength, better coordination and flexibility. Self-confidence and improved ability to focus are other benefits.  While you might initially join your children for a martial arts class to make sure that they get these benefits, joining in yourself can have a profound effect on your own physical health as well.
